Holiday Party – Vince reported that he and Bruce are still negotiating a rate from the Mendenhall. Current quotes include an open bar. Consensus was to get a rate without the open bar. Member cost was agreed at $40 per person (up from $35 last year ). The committee agreed to a club subsidy of up to $20 per person.
Guests (at club expense) to be invited include George Alderman (Carl), our contact at Thunderbolt (Scott), Winner Steve St. Clair (Mark), A rep from national (Mark will invite Manny and Vu), and our Zone rep (Mark).
Rennsport Event – Vince reviewed the plans for this event which will be attended by about 15 Delaware PCA members. Lodging has been negotiated and travel plans have been made. Event admission will be purchased at the site.
Zone 2 Rep – Mark discussed briefly the Zone 2 rep job. The region presidents will make recommendations to the national president to either renew Jim Becker’s assignment or select Fred Phelps who has been nominated from the Potomac Region. Mark discussed some of the plusses and minus being considered for each of the two options. More to follow.
Guidance from National – Mark reported that National has expressed concern about planning driving tours that involve alcohol consumption followed by additional driving (like a wine tour). Also we should not be planning any “auto raffles” like is being done by National.
Club Financials - Stover reported the club financials for the first nine months of 2007. Highlights include increased costs of the newsletter (up 50%), reduction of newsletter advertising revenues, but most importantly, a current cash balance of about $21,732. We have a deposit with Thunderbolt to partner with the Chesapeake region ($5,000 each) and future expenses associated with Zone 2 events are unknown at this point.
New Member Reception – Carl Thompson – Winner Porsche on board to host a new member social on Nov 10. Carl is unable to attend on that date, but other candidate dates didn’t work for a variety of reasons. Carl will plan the event and get support from the Exec Committee to manage the event.
Southern PCA Members – Stover reported the last meeting had 11 members. Still optimistic that up to 20 members could be attending. Chip and Jack Barringer will taking the lead for future meetings. Also will be preparing an article for the newsletter.
Election Committee – Slate all set for the November election.
Nick Dunlop President
Bruce Grasano Vice President
Stover Babcock Treasurer
Liz Reid Secretary
Mark or Jon will prepare an article for the newsletter to provide absentee ballot capabilities.
Summer Picnic
Nick reported he will continue to “tweak” the concurs parking for next years event. Quantity of crabs was discussed – should reduce amount for next year. Might need more beer. Also may provide additional “crab eating” seating. These are improvements as all agreed the event was a runaway success.
Charitable Event – Jon not in attendance and will be selecting a date for the Toy Drive and utilizing funds raised for this purpose.
Braille Rally – Scott not in attendance, but it was reported that this year’s event went very well. It was noted that this will be Rene O;Leary’s last year to run the event. Additionally the BMC group doesn’t seem to have the ability to pick it up. For our club to take this on we would need to have someone come forward and volunteer for that position. Mark will bring this up at a future club meeting or perhaps even at the holiday party.
General Meetings – George Alderman will speak at our next meeting. Consensus was to return to Matildas for the January and February meeting.
Track – No update from Thunderbolt.
Logo Clothing – Bruce is working to get samples and pricing from a local supplier. Also there was no objections to the web enabled supplier Mark sent an e-mail on, assuming contract and details check out and quality merchandise.
Newsletter – Article deadline is Thursday 10/25. This date is needed to permit timely distribution for the election of officers. Mailing will be done using first class postage. Article responsibilities were discussed.
