January Exec Meeting Notes

Present:  Mark Weining, Nick Dunlop, A.K. Kissel, Doug Nickel, Stover Babcock, Jon Walton, Bob Bloser, Carl Thompson, Cris Brady, Eric Andes, Vince Crognale. Via audio – Chip Clapp and Scott Keown.

 

VIR DE Event - Doug reported signups are underway and 100 people were signed up on the first day of registration.  The event target is between 200 to 225 registrants.  The event will be profitable beyond 150 registrants.  On February 1 the event will be open to other than Porsche cars.  Jon reported that additional hotel lodging is now listed on line.

 

Driver Ed – Doug reported that registration the Potomac DE at Watkins Glen in July is now open.  Stover indicated the Metro NY at Watkins Glen at the end of August is also a well run event.

 

Zippo Vintage Grand Prix @ Watkins Glen - Vince Crognale joined the meeting to introduce this three day event at Watkins Glen.  This year the featured marque is Porsche and the three days activities include a festival on Friday, qualifying, and various races on Sunday.  The event is September 8, 9, and 10and and it was agreed to add this event to the calendar as a multi-day drive.  Vince agreed to further discuss the event at the next general meeting.  The drive to the Glen may be broken up with a Thursday night stopover at/near Jon’s home in the Poconos.

 

Southern Delaware Event.  Chip Clapp joined the meeting (audio) to discuss plans for an event in the Dover area.  The dates July 15 and July 22 were discussed and the event might involve partnering with other car clubs (BMW / Mercedes/ and or Delaware Hot Rods).  Alternatives included a social event on Chip’s lawn or at the Dover Airbase in conjunction with a hot rod show.  Chip agreed to further review the alternatives to be discussed next meeting.  It is hoped that we can include many members from Kent, Sussex and the Maryland areas.

 

Monthly Meetings  - Discussed ways to improve meetings.  New member Scott McKeown joined the meeting (audio) and is agreeable to assisting with developing meeting programs – Speakers etc.  Mark Weining and Scott will discuss off-line and report back at our next exec. Meeting.

February 8 meeting will be at Matildas and Vince will say a few words about the Vintage Grand Prix race at Watkins Glen.

March 8 meeting will also be at Matildas with the April 12 meeting being held at MAGP.

Doug will continue to search for alternative meeting locations as Matildas is tight on space.

 

Zone 2 Presidents Meeting – Hagerstown MD February 25.  Mark, John and Stover are planning to attend.  Anyone else interested should let Mark know.

 

Membership -   Carl reported we are at 175 members and believes the club can grow to 200 this year.  The new member social was scheduled for April 8 at Winner Porsche.  Carl will visit with Alex to confirm their participation.  Option discussed was to invite the new members and offer to wash their cars for this Saturday event.

 

Newsletter -  Hans not present and newsletter issues were not discussed.  Stover offered to manage the advertising content and billing for the newsletter ads.

 

Photo Contest - Discussed Nick’s proposal for a club photo contest.  Cris agreed to provide a mechanism for submitting entries for posting on the website.  Nick will write an article for the newsletter.

 

Treasurer’s Report -  Handoff of Treasurer’s duties still not complete and no report was available.

 

ByLaws - Doug discussed a change to our club by-laws having to do with the club providing alcoholic beverages at club social events.  Mark agreed to discuss the issue at the upcoming presidents meeting.

 

Additional 2006 Planning - Mark indicated that a few additional dine and drives will be planned to fill out the calendar.
